Mosaic tiles tell the story in Schoonoord

Young and old work well together

Berry Mertens has founded the ‘Happy Hands Club’ in Schoonoord: a place where fifty school children come together once a month to do something fun together.

“The collaboration with the elderly people of the Ellertsveld was new to us, but we really liked it,” says Berrie. “We will definitely work together again in the future.”

Mrs Verwer, one of the residents of the Ellertsveld, looks at the tile in the sidewalk she has been working on. “The tile is much nicer than when we were working on it,” she says with a smile. “The colors have turned out really beautiful. Only that QR code is a mystery to me.”

Fortunately, there are also the two girls who helped make the tiles, Elina and Macy explain with ease how to ‘use your phone for that’. They wouldn’t say who was better at making the tiles. “We were all equally good,” says Elina very tactically.

Special events in Schoonoord on August 5, 6 and 7

A puzzle tour has been set up especially for this weekend where prizes can be won. The tour goes through all the cultural spots in the village. The Moped Museum is also open, which is rare because it is normally not accessible to everyone.
