Bad news from Morrissey: The ex-Smiths singer not only announced that he had split from his management and record company, but also stated that Miley Cyrus wants to be removed from his forthcoming album BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS. Both announcements were made through the musician’s official website.
“Miley is a punk rocker”
December 23rd was a message entitled “Let’s go to 2023” published, which stated, “Morrissey has voluntarily parted ways with ‘Maverick/Quest Management.’ He has also, of his own will, withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records.” A day later another note was posted with the caption “Miley is a punk rocker” including a picture of the two artists shared in the studio. “Miley Cyrus now wants to be removed from the song ‘I Am Veronica,’ for which she provided backing vocals almost two years ago,” the statement said. “This comes at a time when Morrissey has distanced itself from ‘Capitol Records’ who control the ‘hidden’ record BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS.”
Cyrus has not yet publicly commented on the reports.
This is how (bad) it is currently with “BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS”
In late October, Morrissey announced in a now-deleted post that BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS would be released in February 2023. He corrected this a few weeks later, declaring that the “fate” of the announced work rested solely in the hands of “Capitol Records”. The album was produced by Andrew Watt and is said to feature collaborations with Iggy Pop, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith and Flea, Josh Klinghoffer and Jesse Tobias. In November, the musician announced a North American tour while also announcing that his former record company had acquired the rights to reissue several of his previous productions, including SOUTHPAW GRAMMAR (1995), YOU ARE THE QUARRY (2004) and RINGLEADER OF THE TORMENTORS (2006). Morrissey has also unofficially announced the follow-up to BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS, which will be titled WITHOUT MUSIC THE WORLD DIES.
The first single by BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS is already out, listen to “Rebels Without Applause” here:
