Morocco fans jump on a moving car after World Cup victory: ‘Girlfriend was in a panic’

After Morocco’s World Cup victory on Saturday evening, a video appeared on TikTok of celebrating fans hanging from a moving car in Tilburg and even lying on the roof. You can see how the car slaloms and skids off while bystanders shout and laugh. The driver in question reported to Omroep Brabant. He can’t help laughing: “If I knew this would happen, I would have chosen a different route.”

On Saturday, the Moroccan national team wrote history by beating Portugal and qualifying for the semi-finals of the World Cup. The frenzied fans took to the streets in various places in Brabant to celebrate.

“I saw in my mirror that they wanted to throw a cobra under the car.”

This is also the case in Tilburg, where the ‘party’ was still going on three hours later, as the driver of the car knows. “I went to the center with my girlfriend around nine o’clock in the evening. Due to an accident we had to make a detour and then we came to a stop in the Besterd,” says the boy who only wants to tell his story anonymously.

There was a group of about a hundred Morocco fans on the Besterdring, who surrounded the car. “They started shaking, hanging on the car and I heard someone walking on top of the roof.” The supporters also brought fireworks. “At one point I saw in my mirror that they wanted to throw a cobra under it. Then I went into reverse, immediately back into forward and drove away as quickly as possible.”

“People respond that it’s attempted murder.”

That same evening he saw the video on TikTok passing by. “I think that’s special. I don’t understand how you put something like that on it and think it’s funny.” He is fed up with the reactions, because some people look at him for it. “People are responding that it is attempted murder. What would you do if all those people hang around your car and you are in the car with a friend who is completely panicked? Now it seems like I’m crazy.”

The boy drove his parents’ car, which was undamaged. He does not know what happened to the person who was on top of his car. “I think he climbed off at a traffic light. Or he fell off. I don’t find it interesting either, just stay away from other people’s stuff.”
