National security and customs agents foiled “an attempted international trade in 5 tons and 438 kilograms of cannabis resin that was on board an international freight truck,” the DGSN said in a statement.
According to the first elements of the investigation by the judicial police of the port of Tangier Med, the truck driver tried to use forged export documents when he was about to go to Spain. The driver, a 45-year-old Moroccan, was arrested and taken into custody.
The drugs, in the form of plates, were hidden in specially designed cavities in the trailer and chassis of the truck, the DGSN said.
Morocco is the world’s largest producer of cannabis resin, according to the United Nations.
