Moroccan police make record catch of 31 tons of cannabis hidden in fake fruit | Abroad

Police officers have found a record catch of no less than 31 tons of cannabis during a raid in the Moroccan port city of Tangier. The drugs were hidden in counterfeit fruits and vegetables, the Directorate General for National Security said.

In addition to cannabis, nearly 200 kilograms of hash, derived from the cannabis plant, were also seized from a refrigerated truck in the warehouse. Police were able to arrest a 61-year-old man during the raid.

Morocco is the source of much of the hashish sold illegally on European streets. In the North African country itself, the use of soft drugs is prohibited, unless they are used for medicinal purposes.
