Morning-after pill legal again in Honduras after years of ban | Abroad

The use of the morning-after pill, a contraceptive for women, has been banned in the Central American country since October 2009. “The World Health Organization (WHO) has determined that it is part of women’s reproductive rights and is not an abortion,” Castro continued in the Twitter post.

The lifting of the ban was a campaign promise by the president, who took office in January 2022. Castro is the country’s first female president. In Honduras, where the Catholic Church still has great influence, abortion is illegal.
