After the elections two weeks ago, there are more women in Limburg municipal councils than before.
The ANP reports this in collaboration with data processor LocalFocus.
Mook and Mediator
The increase in the number of women in municipal councils is greatest in Mook and Middelaar, where the proportion of women rises to 53.8 percent: from three to seven. Incidentally, the number of seats there has also been increased by two: from thirteen to fifteen.
The female share is also high in the municipalities of Stein (42.1 percent), Weert and Roermond (both 41.9 percent). It is striking that in Stein the share of women in the previous municipal council was even higher (42.9 percent).
Until the elections, the share of female municipal councilors in the Netherlands was lowest in Limburg. Whether this will still be the case after the recent elections is still unclear.

Decreased
In the municipality of Peel en Maas, the percentage has decreased – contrary to the trend. In the previous city council, eleven women (40.7 percent) had a seat, which has now been reduced to nine (33.3 percent).
In Bergen (from three to two seats), Valkenburg (from eight to seven), Simpelveld (from four to three) and Maasgouw (from five to four seats), the share of female municipal councilors has also decreased.
In all other municipalities the share has remained the same or has increased, as can be seen on the map below.
