There were fewer traffic jams in Drenthe last year than in 2022. This makes Drenthe, together with Overijssel, an exception, according to ANWB figures.
There were more traffic jams nationally this year, which also lasted longer. The ANWB summarizes this in the severity of the traffic jam: the length of a traffic jam multiplied by the number of minutes that the traffic jam exists. All in all, traffic jams increased by 17 percent across the country. The ANWB not only looked at the highways, but also at the N-roads.
Drenthe had slightly less traffic jams in 2023 than the year before, with a decrease of 1 percent. In Overijssel the decrease was 13 percent. This concludes the good news about the traffic jams. In the rest of the country there were only more traffic jams.
The increase was large in the province of Groningen. There, the severity of traffic jams increased by a third. The cause is probably the work around Julianaplein. The N7 between Euvelgunne junction and Julianaplein is number ten in the traffic jam list of N roads. This makes it the only road in the North that appears in a top 10 list.
On the A28 towards Groningen, traffic is often at a standstill during rush hour, but that section of road is not in the top ten of bottlenecks on the A-roads.
The biggest bottlenecks are in the south and center of the country. The A27 between Utrecht and Breda is at the top of the traffic jam list. Number 1 is the A27 to the south, between Lexmond and Werkendam, and number 2 is the A27 to the north, between Geertruidenberg and Gorinchem. The A58 from Breda to Eindhoven is at number 3.
