Happy eggs. They can be seen at the Brink in Assen. More than fifty painted eggs are on display. These were made by 27 primary schools in the Assen area and three locations of Vincent van Gogh CS.
It is, after last year, the second time that there is a pop-up exhibition of the large Easter eggs. And in addition to the fifty large works of art, there are also smaller eggs to be found in Assen. A city treasure hunt has been organized together with the city center organization Vaart in Assen. These small eggs are at various local entrepreneurs in the city center.
‘Proud Frida’
The exhibition was opened this afternoon by King Commissioner Jetta Klijnsma, Mayor Marco Out and Daan, one of the makers of the eggs. Daan’s copy was officially unveiled first, because it is special: “Because of what is going on in the world now, I thought it was important to pay attention to it. The dove stands for peace and on the back is a kite in the colors of Ukraine.”
Out began his speech appropriately: “I am a happy egg. And so stand here like that.” Klijnsma made a link with the exhibition about Frida Kahlo in the Drents Museum. “I’m sure she would be proud of you. And that she’s happy to hang out here with these beautiful artworks outside.”
Egg in town hall and provincial hall
Karin Kingma, culture coordinator of CS Vincent van Gogh, is the initiator of the exhibition. “I am very proud of our students. We really do it all together. It is a process in which everyone walks into the art room and helps out. It is also great that so much attention is paid to it.”
Last week the school received the Drenthe Education Prize for the first pop-up exhibition of last year. Kingma is so happy with the success that next year there will be another open air exhibition in Assen with the large painted eggs.
Out and Klijnsma were both allowed to choose an egg from the director of the school community, which will soon be on display in the town hall and the provincial government. By the way, this only happens after the exhibition on the Brink is over. It will run until Easter Monday, April 18. The brochure for the city treasure hunt is available at the Assen tourist office.
