This spring, the government will make a number of subsidy schemes available for energy innovation projects and making the industry more sustainable. Companies and knowledge institutions that innovate or make investments to reduce CO2emissions, can receive a subsidy for this. With these schemes, the government wants to accelerate investments for a sustainable industry and the development of innovations. The total available budget is more than € 270 million. The first grants can be applied for from 15 March.

€74 million is available for the Demonstration of Energy and Climate Innovation (DEI+) scheme. This scheme supports companies and knowledge institutions in carrying out innovative pilot and demonstration projects that lead to CO22reduction in 2030. The projects must contribute to a CO2-free electricity system, a natural gas-free built environment or a climate-neutral and circular industry. The scheme is open from 15 March 2023 to 31 August 2023.

Rob Jetten (Minister for Climate and Energy): “In order for the energy and climate transition to succeed, it is important that we support innovations. With these schemes we hope to help companies and researchers find smart solutions to, for example, reduce CO2emissions and make the energy system more flexible and efficient.”

€ 138 million is available for the Accelerated Climate Investments in Industry (VEKI) scheme. This scheme supports CO2-saving measures whose effectiveness has been proven. These measures are often not yet profitable, require a high payback period or additional support. These investments contribute to making the industry more sustainable. The VEKI can be requested from 15 March 2023 to 9 January 2024.

Micky Adriaansens (minister of Economic Affairs and Climate): “In the Netherlands we want to have a strong and sustainable industry. To make this transition to sustainability, we must continue to innovate and invest in innovative technology. We are very good at that in the Netherlands, and we should continue to do so. With these subsidies, we hope to make it more attractive and easier for companies to come up with new things and continue to invest money in them.”

Some other schemes that will be opened this spring are the Renewable Energy Scheme (HER+) and tenders for the Top Sector Energy (TSE). For example, the schemes should ensure that the energy transition becomes more affordable and innovations in the industry in the field of circular economy are stimulated.

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) implements the schemes. On the website of RVO and in the Government Gazette contains more information about these subsidy schemes.
