More than a hundred people evacuated after fire in Amsterdam South

A fire broke out in an apartment in the Van Hilligaertstraat in Amsterdam South this evening. More than a hundred people were evacuated as a precaution, but were later allowed to return to their homes. The fire is now out. Four homes have been declared uninhabitable.

The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. Photos show that there is a large hole in the roof. There were people in the house at the time of the fire. They have now been brought to safety. No one was injured in the fire.

Of the people who were evacuated as a precaution, the majority are Ukrainian refugees who are staying at the Savoy Hotel next door. They can now go back inside. The fire brigade says that they are currently receiving aftercare from municipal employees.
