More than 68,000 cinema visitors for Belgian Oscar entry ‘Close’ | Movie

Belgian film scores this autumn. Earlier we wrote that ‘Zillion’ had a better opening weekend than blockbuster ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and attracted no less than 132,000 visitors in its first week. But that other Belgian print, ‘Close’, is also doing well in the cinema. Lumière announces that 68,797 people came to watch the second feature film by director Lukas Dhont in this first week. The film would also score throughout Belgium. “The film is very successful in Wallonia and the turnout in Brussels can even be called spectacular. Moreover, ‘Close’ knows how to charm visitors to the multiplexes as well as to the arthouse cinemas.”

‘Close’, about the close friendship between two boys, has regularly won prizes in recent weeks. The print was awarded a Grand Prix, and prizes followed at the Hamptons Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival, the Sydney Film Festival and the Film Fest Hamburg. ‘Close’ is also the official Oscar submission of our country and has been nominated in four categories of the European Film Awards and for a British Independent Film Award (BIFA).
