More than 6500 drivers can expect a GAS fine from Blankenberge

Mayor Björn Prasse: “We have introduced this measure for security reasons. ANPR cameras, smart cameras that automatically read the license plates, detected whether or not drivers had a permit to drive in the restricted traffic zone.”

No fines were issued in July. “The intention was to make drivers aware of the new regulations. An average of 500 drivers drove into the car-free center every day. From August 8, about 6600 drivers received a GAS fine of 58 euros.

Other GAS fines

There were also other GAS violations. Most violations fell into the ‘other’ category, such as bathing in unguarded areas, leaving waste incorrectly… In addition, illegal dumping and dogs without a leash are also a problem.

Björn Prasse: “Besides the effective fines, mainly verbal warnings were given. On the one hand, we are focusing on awareness, on the other hand it is not always possible to just write out a GAS fine.
