Low-cost households in Assen, Tynaarlo and Aa en Hunze will receive 800 euros in installments as an extra energy surcharge.
This concerns residents with an income of up to 120 percent of the social minimum, who were known to WPDA (Werkplein Drentsche Aa) on 1 January 2022.
The three municipalities are doing this in view of rising gas prices. ‘We are receiving more and more signals from residents and cooperation partners that households are experiencing difficulties in paying their energy costs. We are therefore not going to wait for the amendment of the law from the government,” said alderman Jan Broekema.
The majority of the total of 2850 households live on social assistance benefits.
800 euros in installments
In December, the government announced that low-income households would receive a one-off extra energy surcharge of 200 euros. In March, another 600 euros per household was added. A total of 800 euros per household will be paid in instalments.
Other households that may be eligible cannot submit an application to WPDA at this time, according to the three municipalities. There will be more clarity about this soon.
