The number of war refugees from Ukraine arriving in Germany continues to rise. So far, 218,301 refugees have been identified, the Federal Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday.
The number is determined by the federal police, which is currently carrying out increased checks on trains.
However, the actual number may be higher because there are no regular controls at the German-Polish border and people with Ukrainian passports can initially move freely in the EU for 90 days. They do not have to register until they apply for state benefits.
According to the federal government, refugees from the Ukraine who are not staying privately with families, acquaintances or other helpful people are also increasingly being registered in initial reception facilities.
