More than 200 Dutch people donated money to Canadian trucker protest | Inland

The Dutch donations to the Canadian Freedom Convoys come from all over the country. The largest amounts (up to 900 dollars) come from entrepreneurs, but also from spiritually minded, a Canadian Dutchman and a dentist. ‘We wish you strength from our small, oppressed country by the sea’, writes one of the donors.

Hundreds of truckers in Canada have been protesting for weeks against the corona measures, specifically against the mandatory vaccinations for truckers who want to cross the border with America. The center of the capital Ottawa has been blocked by parked trucks for days. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau has introduced a special emergency law to counter the actions.

The truckers raised millions through crowdfunding, including through the GiveSendGo site. Several leaked databases of these have appeared online in recent days, and this site has had insight into a database. Most of the tens of thousands of donations come from Canada itself and the US. But more than 200 Dutch people also transferred money to Canada. Most donations are small: up to $50. A total of 10,660 dollars has been transferred by Dutch people.

Initially, the money for fuel and lost income of the truckers was raised through the well-known site GoFundMe. When that stopped, the smaller Christian GiveSendGo took over. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau has been trying to break the protests for weeks. His deputy prime minister announced on Monday that they want to block the bank accounts of the truckers’ companies. “We will follow the money. This is about stopping funding illegal blockades,” Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said at a news conference.
