Many Berliners contact the Rotes Rathaus directly with their concerns, worries and needs

In the first half of the year, more than 12,500 entries and inquiries were received by the citizens’ advice service of the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD). That’s around 70 per day, as the Senate Chancellery announced on Wednesday. 99.6 percent could already be answered conclusively.

Inquiries and submissions to the citizens’ advice service can be made by telephone, e-mail or in person at the town hall. Corona and the effects of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine dominated the first half of the year.

Other focal points were housing issues, the often difficult task of making appointments at the citizen registration office, local public transport and cleanliness in the city.

Giffey: “Don’t be shy”

“For more than 40 years, the citizens’ advice service has been providing Berliners with help and advice. The large number of submissions shows how indispensable the help and support provided here is,” explained Giffey. “The very different concerns that the citizens’ advice service deals with are also an important indicator of the satisfaction of Berliners with their administration, of focal points, sources of error and need for improvement.”

She wants to encourage everyone in the city, says Giffey: “Don’t be afraid to contact the citizens’ advice service if you get stuck or have a concern that worries you or that you need specific support for.”

The citizens’ advice center in the Red Town Hall (room 77) can be visited on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pre-registration is not necessary. The Citizens’ Advice Center can be reached by telephone on 030 9026 2020 or by email at [email protected].

In addition, Giffey offers personal consultation hours for citizens several times a year. The next one is expected to take place on October 19th.
