Since Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Berlin police have counted more than 1,100 war-related crimes.

Most of the cases involved damage to property, insults and threats to people, as the Senate and the police responded to several inquiries from the Left party.

Around 650 of the acts had a general connection to the war, around 230 were anti-Russian and 200 were anti-Ukrainian. Then there were other acts that were directed against Belarus or Poland.

There were also isolated attacks on Russians or Ukrainians. There was also damage to restaurants, companies or institutions that have connections to Russia or Ukraine. According to police figures, these crimes were most frequently recorded in the Mitte district, presumably because that is where most of these facilities can be found.

The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) reported on the threat to Ukrainians and Russians: “There is no change in the threat situation that can be determined.” The number of cases reached their peak at the beginning of May 2022 and has fallen continuously since then. At the same time, the number of demonstrations and participants in them has also fallen.
