More tents at Schiphol for travelers in ‘extremely long’ queues

Schiphol has placed extra tents in front of the departure halls to protect travelers in long queues from the sun and rain showers. The new roofs are in front of Departure Hall 3 and behind the existing queuing tent intended for Departure Hall 1. The extra tents mean that passengers are not yet finished with the ‘extremely long’ queues at Schiphol.

At the end of May, Schiphol boss promised that the long lines before the check-in desks and security checks would be over in the summer. The extra roofs suggest otherwise. Due to the large number of passengers, you have to wait outside almost every day.

Trade union FNV, with which Schiphol a agreement closed for extra money for ground staff, assumes that the entire summer holiday will also be busy with queues extending far outside the terminal. The chaos at Schiphol was so great last Whitsun weekend that KLM canceled fifty flights a day and no longer took any passengers back to Amsterdam on Saturdays within Europe.

peak days

Long queues stood in and in front of every departure hall during Pentecost. To prevent travelers from having to wait in the blistering sun or in a rain shower again this weekend, extra tents have been placed. Schiphol expects peak days again on Friday and Sunday. It will be a ‘busy day’ on Saturday.
