More solar panels in 2022: West Flanders at the top

In West Flanders there was an additional capacity of 103 KW in solar panels last year. That is an increase of 66 percent compared to 2021. In 2020 there was a remarkable record of 172 KW of added capacity.

“Remedy against high energy prices”

In total there were already 155,887 installations of solar panels in our province, good for 878 W per inhabitant. The five strongest municipalities are Ardooie, Lo-Reninge, Wielsbeke, Veurne and Alveringem.

The five strongest climbers in 2022 are: Lo-Reninge, Pittem, Wevelgem, Ardooie and Damme. “At the end of 2022, Damme had 1730 solar panel installations with a combined capacity of 9 megawatts,” says alderman for Environmental Policy in Damme Bart Desutter. “Many inhabitants of Dammen understood that investing in their own production is a remedy against the high energy prices.”

Position in relation to Flanders

After Limburg, West Flanders is first in the class when it comes to wealth per inhabitant. In the top ten of Flanders, there are eight West Flemish municipalities: Ardooie (2), Lo-Reninge (3), Wielsbeke (4), Veurne (5), Alveringem (6), Pittem (8), Langemark-Poelkapelle ( 9) and Waregem (10).

For 2022, the strongest climbers also include six West Flemish municipalities in the Flemish top 10: Alveringem (1), Ardooie (2), Avelgem (3), Damme (5), Deerlijk (6) and Ingelmunster (10).
