More reports of UFOs: also from West Flanders

In 2021, the hotline received 193 reports. The French-speaking COBEPS (Comité Belge pour l’Etude des Phénomènes Spatiaux) recorded 54 reports last year.

Less quality

“Unfortunately, we saw the quality of the reported sightings continue to decline over the past year,” says the reporting centre. “Despite the efforts of the reporting center to better equip witnesses by means of an IFO (Identified Flying Object) database to identify the UFOs they have observed themselves, we continue to receive reports that are often very easy to explain,” says Frederick.

Often stars, airplanes or balloons

Sometimes the things observed are easy to explain. “Stars, planets, airplanes and balloons remain the most common incentives for reporting a UFO. In addition, this year we again saw a large number of reports that received the evaluation “data insufficient”.

This judgment is given when there is too little information available to make a statement about the origin of the phenomenon, or when a witness did not answer our additional questions.”
