The Kaagbaan runway at Schiphol cannot be used in the near future due to major maintenance. The municipality of Amstelveen warns of additional noise pollution. Together with the Polderbaan, the Kaagbaan runway produces the least noise pollution in the region, because the approach and exit routes run over less densely built-up areas.
According to Amstelveen, more flights will fly over Amstelveen due to maintenance. Residents who live under the exit routes of the Aalsmeerbaan in particular must take into account more noise pollution. “Use of the Aalsmeerbaan runway will increase significantly during the day, both for landing and taking off,” the municipality says.
Schiphol reports that maintenance on the Kaagbaan runway will last from February 19 to mid-April. During that period, the Zwanenburgbaan, Aalsmeerbaan and Buitenveldertbaan runways are used more often. “In exceptional cases, the Schiphol-Oost runway can be used at night for landing traffic from the northeast.” That is the shortest runway at the airport.
