In the last week of the World Championship of Lions, the tournament of the Swedish Euro Hockey Tour, the Beijer Hockey Games, will be played, where the Lions will start with a renewed line-up. New players from the domestic League finals and the NHL will join.

– In the NHL, out of players who have already finished their season and are fit to play, we wanted a goalkeeper to join Harri Säterin (Arizona Coyotes), defender Henri Jokiharjun (Buffalo Sabers) and striker Juho Lammikon (Vancouver Canucks). They will join the team by the end of the week, GM Jere Lehtinen says.

– Montreal striker Joel Armian have yet to pass a medical examination and attend the club’s season finale before joining the A national team.

Björninen returns

Striker on the sidelines of Czech Week Hannes Björninen will return to the lineup after a week break.

Among the finalists of the Domestic League, a TPS striker will wear a national team shirt Markus Nurmi and the defenders of Tappara Otto Leskinen and Mikael Seppälä.

Defender injured in Czech tournament on Saturday Niklas Friman will have to skip the Swedish EHT tournament. The possibility for Friman to join later will be monitored.

Aaltonen’s deal

The news that went public on Sunday Miro Aaltonen the contract for next season has been reviewed with the player and his representative.

– Contrary to yesterday’s news, Aaltonen will not be going to Russia next season. He signed an agreement for the period 2022–23 before the Olympics, and demolition work began immediately after the start of the war in Ukraine. The final seal for terminating a contract should be a matter of days or even hours, Lehtinen explains.

The position of the Finnish Hockey Association is that players playing in Russia next season will not be able to play for the national team.

After the last week of the camp, the composition of the Lions will be evaluated once more before the World Cup group is named.

– The latest games are important places on the screen for those involved. We are also watching the European leagues and the NHL as the first round of the playoffs progresses, says Lehtinen.
