More guesswork about Nico Schlottbeck

At Borussia Dortmund there is also uncertainty about Nico Schlotterbeck before the next title “final” against VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday (5:30 p.m.). Apparently, the central defender was recently absent from BVB training.

As the usually well-informed “Ruhr Nachrichten” report, team training on Wednesday took place without Schlotterbeck. It is “open” whether he can play against Wolfsburg, it is said.

Schlotterbeck was substituted in the 25th minute of BVB’s 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt due to muscular problems.

“Nico wanted to keep playing. We want to learn. He kept playing in Munich and then dropped out. That’s why we took him down this time,” explained coach Edin Terzic.

Before the “small” district derby at VfL Bochum, the BVB coach had said that Schlotterbeck’s injury was “not that dramatic”. It is still unclear when the 23-year-old will be back on the lawn.

Mats Hummels played alongside Niklas Süle in the center of defense against Bochum. Should Schlotterbeck not be fit to play before the Wolfsburg game, the duo should be set again.

Second most minutes played at BVB

In the current season, Schlotterbeck is one of the all-time favorites in the BVB squad. He has already played 3034 minutes in all competitions, only Jude Bellingham (3377) has played more often.

Schlotterbeck recorded four goals and four assists in his 38 competitive games – exceptional values for a central defender. In the Bundesliga he wins 66.75 percent of his duels – best value at BVB.

Before the season, Dortmund had transferred 20 million euros to SC Freiburg for the nine-time international. Its market value is now estimated at around 40 million euros.
