“As far as I’m concerned, the number of female aldermen can be exactly half, just like in society”, alderman Huijs pleads. According to Smitsmans, women have a different perspective on plans. “If you think about the layout of a neighbourhood, men are more likely to look at parking lots and access roads. Women more often tend to look at safe roads to school,” says Smitsmans.
