The doctors were unable to play at Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin on Friday (26 August). As the organizer announced in the afternoon, due to a forecast thunderstorm, they were forced to cancel the concert for safety reasons.
“For your safety, please leave the area of the event site on the designated paths,” it said in a statement. Numerous fans had already gathered at the extensive area of the former Tempelhof Airport. “If you still wanted to travel, please don’t do so or turn back if you are already on your way.”
The German Weather Service had issued an official severe weather warning for Berlin and warned of severe thunderstorms with “extremely heavy rain and hail”. In fact, it had started to rain heavily around 3 p.m., and thunder and lightning could be heard all over the city. Thunderstorms are also forecast for the rest of the evening and overnight.
As part of their Berlin Festival, the doctors wanted to play at Tempelhofer Feld on August 26, 27 and 28. Although one of the gigs is now canceled and, according to the organizer, no alternative date has been set for the time being, it is assumed “according to the current status” that the performances on Saturday and Sunday can take place as planned.
