The government is making Ukraine a so-called focus country in the field of international cultural policy. This was announced by State Secretary Uslu (Culture and Media) during a meeting with European culture ministers in Brussels. This status offers more opportunities for cultural cooperation, investment and exchange.

State Secretary Uslu: ‘Especially now it is important to also cooperate in the cultural field. Everything of value is defenseless – especially in times of war. By making Ukraine a focus country in our international cultural policy, we can help the cultural sector there. Not only financially through funds, but also with practical support and the exchange of people and knowledge. In this way, the Netherlands supports Ukraine in its resistance against Russian war crimes such as the destruction of cultural heritage and cultural infrastructure.

The war waged by the Russian regime against Ukraine leaves deep scars on all fronts. Also in the field of heritage, art and culture. To facilitate cultural cooperation with Ukraine, the government is adding it to the list of focus countries for international cultural policy. Joint projects can receive support through the Dutch embassy and Dutch cultural institutions. There are also opportunities for exchanges of makers and other professionals in the cultural and creative sector. The Netherlands has also started providing emergency aid to damaged museums and collections.
