More Brits in Ypres
The sector urgently asks for a relaxation of the corona measures for the British, because many are still holding them back.
Natasja Feliers, Ariane Hotel Ypres: “In February, 6% of the reservations are made by British guests. In March this is already 35% and in April we arrive at 55%, which is actually very close to the old normal.”
The strict corona measures are often a turn-off for the British. Hotel Arianne has already recorded 250 cancellations. “They currently still have to take a pre-departure test, a PCR test on arrival and go into quarantine until the result is known. That is no longer a requirement in any other European country.”
It is therefore hoped for code orange with a quick relaxation of the measures. In the meantime, the city continues to support the sector with an extra 50,000 euros for this weekend. Diego Desmadryl, Alderman for Tourism Ypres: “If you book a hotel in Ypres this weekend, you will receive an extra night for free.”
