The light artwork in the Hondsrug tunnel in the center of Emmen is showing more and more defects. The company BAM, which repairs the artwork three times a year at night, has informed the municipality that parts now need to be replaced.

Alderman Jan Bos (Wakker Emmen) announced this during a committee meeting on Monday evening after questions from VVD councilor Patrick de Jonge. The Liberal also asked questions about the leak in the tunnel. This has been the case for years and this problem has to do with the composition of the soil. According to Bos, there is a budget available to tackle the decorative lighting on the Raadhuisplein and gravel piles can be driven into the ground near the tunnel for this job. “These poles have to go through the loam layer, so that the water can sink into the ground better. Hopefully this will reduce moisture problems in the tunnel.”
