Moped rider ignoring barriers caught
After intense detective work, the police were able to identify the owner and driver of the moped. The vehicle comes from a company from Roeselare that distributes meals. The moped was not registered and was not insured.
The driver of the moped is a 20-year-old man from Ledegem who confessed everything after questioning. He said he had earphones in and had not heard the level crossing bell. He also hadn’t noticed that the traffic lights were red and that the barriers were closed.
Infrabel’s investigation showed that the train had indeed collided with the moped. The moped found showed damage at the place where the train had hit the moped.
The 20-year-old man from Ledegem will have to answer to the police judge. He may face a hefty fine.
