Moped rider critical in accident in Ooigem

The accident happened around 7 pm on the Kanaalweg in Ooigem, along the Roeselare-Leie canal. The man drove off the towpath onto the road. A car driver was surprised and was unable to avoid a collision.

CPR on site

The moped, a booster, was catapulted tens of meters away. The car came to a stop a hundred yards away.

The moped rider was seriously injured. Emergency services performed CPR on the spot. After an hour, the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car was unharmed.

Canal Road has been closed to traffic for hours.
