Monza pro injured in knife attack

The professional footballer Pablo Marí, who was injured in a knife attack in a shopping center in Milan, is not in mortal danger, according to his parent club FC Arsenal.

The London giants, who loaned the defender to Italian top flight club AC Monza, tweeted: “We have been in contact with Pablo’s agent who has told us he is in hospital but not seriously injured.”

The 29-year-old Spaniard, like five other people, had previously been attacked and injured by a man in a shopping center in a suburb of Milan. A supermarket worker died from his injuries. The perpetrator, for whom the police initially do not assume a terrorist motive, was arrested by the Carabinieri. According to reports, it is a 46-year-old Italian man.

“Our thoughts are with Pablo Marí and the other victims of the terrible incident in Italy today,” Arsenal tweeted. AC Monza published a comment from general manager Adriano Galliani to the defender: “Keep fighting as you can, you are a warrior and you will recover soon.”

Marí has been under contract at Arsenal since 2020 but was loaned out to Udinese Calcio in Italy last January. He only returned briefly to England in the summer before moving back to Serie A on loan, this time to Monza.
