Monza, Palladino doesn’t say too much about his future. Galliani awaits salvation

“The contract expiring? Now is not the time to think about it, I’m fine in Monza, we’ll talk about it at the end of the championship”. Since Raffaele Palladino gave wings to the Brianza side, with terrific results (10 points out of 12 with Juve and Inter…), and a spectacular game, questions about his renewal are almost the order of the day. Normal, given the excellent work he has done. Logical, considering that June 30 is not that far away. There is no doubt from the side of the club and Adriano Galliani’s words to the Gazzetta provide further confirmation: “The Monza fans, of which I belong, rest assured: as per the agreements made, the contractual renewal of our current coach will be discussed to salvation arithmetically achieved”.

For what is only a question of numbers, Palladino is missing five points, a formality, before being summoned by the management. Then the ball will pass to the coach who is now one of the family at Monza: he arrived in April 2019, with the team in Serie C, even if he never took the field due to various physical problems. From there he began his coaching career with the young red and whites: first the Under 15s, then the Under 19s and the Primavera, before moving to the first team last September. He took the place of Giovanni Stroppa, the coach of the historic promotion to Serie A (the first in Monza’s 110-year history), fired after six days in which he had collected only one point (in Lecce) after five defeats in a row.

Seeing him work up close, Galliani had no qualms about betting on him. A rookie coach in a team in their first experience in Serie A: it seemed like a gamble, it was a success. The transition to a 3-4-2-1, the involvement of the entire squad (as many as 15 players found the goal), the Ciurria bet on the right, are just some of the intuitions of Palladino, who debuted with the victory over Juve in home. From there, the growth never stopped and already last week, after the coup in the Nerazzurri’s San Siro, the CEO del Monza had practically confirmed it, with words that left no doubt: “Raffaele Palladino will stay with us. It’s not in question, there will definitely be next year too. We didn’t sign just for good luck, it’s my fault”. The club’s position has therefore always remained the same and, obviously, after the splendid comeback against Fiorentina (the first after a two-goal deficit), no one will have changed their mind…

And the technician? That “I’m fine in Monza” on the one hand should reassure the red and white fans, on the other Palladino – perhaps out of superstition, perhaps to keep tension in the group high or perhaps to wait for the arithmetic like Galliani – every time he was called in question has never given a definitive answer. But that will come soon. The fact remains that, with him on the bench, the team is literally flying and the coach’s suitors have increased. Salvation, which at the beginning of the season seemed problematic, with the new course has become only a matter of arithmetic, not of substance. With the thought that, in the next season, he can also push himself towards European ambitions. If there are no traumatic divorces, the road will be easier.
