Monty Williams, coach of the Phoenix Suns, was chosen this Monday as the best coach of the season, after guiding his team to the first position in the Western Conference with a record of 64-18, the best in the league, the NBA said in a statement. Williams was elected by a pool of 100 media votes and won ahead of Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins and Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. It’s the first coach of the year award for Williams, who joins Cotton Fitzsimmons and Mike D’Antoni in the group of coaches capable of winning the award with the Suns.
The Phoenix team, which lost the nba finals last year against the Milwaukee Bucks, he is tied 2-2 with the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference semifinals this year.
