Month-long delay in appeal Pinkpopdrama | 1Limburg

The Court of Appeal in Den Bosch has decided to postpone the appeal against Danny S. (38), who caused a fatal accident after Pinkpop 2018, indefinitely. Danny no longer has a lawyer after his counsel Ivo van de Bergh recently put down the defense.

As a result, Danny appeared alone in court on Thursday.

déjà vu
It is striking that Danny appeared without a lawyer, because he already did that when the appeal was due to start in August 2021. His lawyer Raimon Maessen had just ended the collaboration with his client. At that time, too, the Court decided to postpone the case. Danny is assigned a public defender who will assist him in a few months.

No money
According to the Court, the case is legally too complex for Danny and assistance by a lawyer is therefore necessary. It is a rarity that the defense is dismissed twice in a case of this magnitude. Both his first lawyer Maessen and his successor Van de Bergh do not want to say anything about the reason for the split.

According to Danny, he simply cannot afford a lawyer and that has caused friction in both cases. A ‘free’ lawyer must now offer a solution.

Bitter pill
It is not known when the appeal will continue. The new delay is a bitter pill for victims and relatives. A 35-year-old man died in the accident and three others were seriously injured. “My clients said on Monday: ‘We have a life sentence.’ They want to close this book. Of course it doesn’t work this way,” their lawyer Nino Pennino told L1 earlier.
