Month long break? Expert explains Mané injury

FC Bayern has not yet officially confirmed how long Sadio Mané will be out due to his calf injury. However, an expert supports reports that the Senegalese are threatened with a months-long break.

“Sadio Mané will be able to move his knee again relatively early and start training. After four weeks he can start to regain his muscles. Depending on how quickly he builds them up again, the rehab will go. After six weeks he can start with the Start running training on the lawn. Playing with contact is possible after about three months,” said Prof. Dr. Andreas B. Imhoff, Professor of Sports Orthopedics at the Technical University of Munich “Picture”.

A race against time awaits Mané if he wants to be back in the FC Bayern jersey until the first duel in the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain (February 14, 2023).

“Without this tendon, we cannot rotate the leg and foot”

Mané’s fibula head injury is rare among footballers. “There are two tendons that can tear on the fibula head. First, the outer ligament that goes from the thigh to the lower leg. If this narrow ligament is torn, you bend your knee right away,” explained Imhoff.

Mané suffered the injury on November 8 in the Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen. According to the doctor, the fact that the 30-year-old was able to leave the field on his own after his injury indicates that the biceps tendon, which runs from the thigh to the fibula head, is affected.

“Without this tendon, we can’t turn our leg or our foot,” said Imhoff, who has had one or two FC Bayern pros under the knife in the past.

FC Bayern: Sadio Mané’s surgery “went well”

However, the operation on Mané was performed by the experienced knee specialist Professor Dr. Christian Fink through.

“The tendon is usually fixed with threads that are pulled through the bone – a kind of loop principle. If the tendon is a bit frayed or torn, I’m always happy to support the tendon with a plastic band as reinforcement,” explained Imhoff the procedure.

Mané spoke up via Instagram on Sunday evening and said the surgery “went well”. Due to his injury, the offensive player missed the World Cup in Qatar.
