Donker started his search for the German dolmens ten years ago. Every year he visited more than a hundred dolmens to add them to his computer. Four years ago, Donker presented his findings to the Hunebedcentrum, after which a group of volunteers started mapping the hunebeds.
“This is a unique monster job, monstrous work of the 21st century and it provides valuable data about dolmens. Even in Germany this has never been so completely bundled before,” says director Harrie Wolters of the Hunebedcentrum. Now that Donker has finished mapping the German dolmens, he wants to go to Poland. There are fewer dolmens there and mapping will take less time.
All 1500 known dolmens, including the German ones, are standing here on a ticket.
