Monica Geuze bashed by Angela de Jong: ‘She is very annoying’

The RTL 4 show The Masked Singer has undergone a minor overhaul. Where there used to be two celebrity panel duos, there are now five individual celebrity panel members, including newcomer Monica Geuze. And the AD opinion diva, Angela de Jong, is not exactly enthusiastic about that. In fact, she really beats her down in the AD Media podcast.

‘Why Monica?!’

When asked whether Angela thinks her arrival is an improvement, she answers unrelentingly. “You really want to know? No. Once again, my 10-year-old spent all of Friday shouting, “What time does The Masked Singer start?” It was ready.”

And then? “He just said: ‘Why is Monica Geuze there? Why are there no duos anymore? Why is there one jury now? Why does Monica have to say everything all the time? Why?'”

‘Just as flexible’

Manuel Venderbos, presenter of the podcast, thinks that is a bit rigid. “Just as flexible as his mother,” he cynically notes.

Colleague Dennis Janssen finds that very personal. “My 21-year-old daughter said: ‘I’m going to look for Monica Geuze.’ 21. So she looks for Monica Geuze.”

Very irritating

During her debut, Monica made a spicy joke about fellow panel member Loretta Schrijver: “Those old pliers in the middle are of no use to you, are you?”

Inappropriate, Angela thinks. “I found it very irritating, I must tell you. The joke about the ‘pliers’ Loretta, that also hit me quite wrong.”

The exaggerated role of the panel members is starting to bother her more and more. “I have the feeling that some kind of show is being put on. But I have that with more of those types of programs. It’s never really bothered me that much. I think they know much faster than they let on.”

‘I miss the chatter’

All in all, it is not an improvement, Angela concludes. “I just really missed Loretta and Carlo chatting with each other a bit. Buddy and Gerard. I repeat my daughter’s question again: ‘Why on earth did Monica Geuze have to be in there?’”
