Money for De Slenken sports hall in de Wijk goes towards making Sports Hall ‘t Zandmeer in Kerkenveld more sustainable

The sports halls of the municipality of De Wolden must be made future-proof. The municipality recently announced again in the framework memorandum that it is fully committed to making municipal buildings more sustainable. Because De Slenken Sports Hall in De Wijk cannot currently be tackled, the budget released for this purpose will now be used at Sports Hall ‘t Zandmeer in Kerkenveld.

Not only to set a good example as a municipality, making municipal buildings more sustainable also results in significant savings. Five municipal buildings have been specifically nominated for sustainability. This concerns the sports halls in De Wijk, Ruinen and Ruinerwold, the sports hall in Kerkenveld and the Zuidwolde municipal yard. An amount of almost 1.4 million euros is involved. The municipality reported this in 2021.

However, between the preparation of the plans for this and their actual implementation, circumstances and insights in this area have changed. “The corona crisis has taught us how important ventilation is. And the generation of more and more sustainable energy sometimes causes overload on the power grid: grid congestion,” the municipality said. The latter meant that Sports Hall De Slenken in De Wijk cannot be made sustainable for the time being. The power grid cannot handle that.

Sports hall ‘t Zandmeer

Sports hall ‘t Zandmeer in Kerkenveld, on the other hand, can already be made more sustainable according to plan. With the caveat that extra money will have to be spent on this to also take ventilation to a higher level. The municipality of De Wolden has therefore decided to spend the money within the budget for making the sports halls more sustainable that cannot currently be spent on making the De Slenken sports hall more sustainable, on making ‘t Zandmeer more sustainable.

However, De Wolden’s objectives in terms of making sports halls more sustainable remain unchanged: ultimately, all sports halls will become future-proof.
