Money exchange office Suri-Change loses licenses with DNB

Suri-Change no longer has permits from De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) to operate as an exchange and currency office. Out the public register from the DNB it appears that since last Wednesday Suri-Change no longer has the required permits to send money abroad without the intervention of a bank, nor to exchange foreign currencies.

Suri-Change had the permits since 2004, but had not served customers for several months. Since May, the company’s branches in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam have been closed by order of the mayors. They ruled that public order was at stake after explosions occurred at various locations. In addition, there is a criminal investigation into Suri-Change. The Public Prosecution Service suspects the company of money laundering and underground (for organized crime) banking.

In June revealed News hour that the money exchange office had worked with the Dutch police for years to have seized foreign currency exchanged into euros. Suri-Change earned tens of thousands of euros from the deal with the police. That agreement ended when police raided and arrested five people this spring. They are suspected of laundering millions of euros in drug money.

Suri Change mentioned the suspicions of the Public Prosecution Service in June “unfounded” and said it would provide “full cooperation” to the investigating authorities. Suri-Change’s lawyer emphasizes that DNB’s decision is not “irrevocable”. You have the option to file an objection until the end of November.
