Monetization is coming to Horizon Worlds, Meta’s VR platform

Meta continues to lay the foundations of its metaverse. The firm has just revealed that it will test two new monetization features for creators within Horizon Worlds, its virtual reality social platform.

Sell virtual goods

First, a handful of creators will be able to sell virtual products in the world they created on the platform. “ For example, someone could make and sell attachable accessories for a fashion-driven world or offer paid access to a new part of a world. “explains Meta in a blog post. Only users over the age of 18 and living in the United States and Canada can, at this time, purchase goods in Horizon Worlds.

TikTok once again dominates the ranking of the most downloaded apps

If you just imagine a future metaverse at some point, clearly the ability to sell virtual goods and be able to take them with you from world to world will be an important part of that. But first, there have to be things people want to buy to keep this economy going. said Mark Zuckerberg during a conversation with Vidyuu Studios held directly in Horizon Worlds.

The sale of virtual products is reminiscent of the possible use of NFTs, which Meta wishes to introduce to its platforms later this year. Moreover, Zuckerberg was going in this direction during a declaration made earlier this year: I would like the clothes your avatar wears in the metaverse to be cashable as NFTs and you can take them to your different locations “.

Bounties to attract creators to Horizon Worlds

The Silicon Valley giant has also announced the launch of a bounty program for certain creators in Horizon Worlds:

“These bonuses come in the form of monthly goal-based programs, where creators are paid at the end of the month based on their progress towards the set goal. Creator bonuses are fee-free and will be paid out to creators in full. For now, in this limited test, creators will be rewarded for building worlds that attract the most time spent, but over time we may evolve these goals, for example to encourage creators to adopt new tools or new features that we deploy”.

This program, which is reminiscent of what has already been done on Instagram, is an extension of the Horizon Creators Fund, a $10 million fund introduced last October to encourage people to use Horizon Worlds and build new worlds there.

The Basics of Metaverse from Meta

Meta lifted the lid on his vision for the metaverse at the Connect event. This is the cornerstone of the future of the company, which is working hard on its development.

The Horizon Worlds platform thus allows him to lay the foundations of what Meta considers to be the future of the Internet. For now, more than 10,000 worlds have been created through the platform, while it has more than 300,000 users. Important fact to note; at the end of its statement, Meta asks people visiting Horizon Worlds to report it if they observe behavior that violates the rules of use of the platform.

Because if the metaverse seems promising, its deployment raises many questions related to the safety of users, especially children. Moreover, the firm recently launched a feature intended to prevent attacks within its platform. It’s understandable that the firm takes so much of the lead, since it’s not known for its moderation efforts…
