The ambitious goal of the Munich sneaker label MONACO DUCKS: a completely recyclable sneaker. The team around the two founders Julian Hermsdorf and Carl Warkentin is always on the lookout for new ideas and innovations – their new model MOD.6 c:fiber proves that it is worth keeping your eyes and ears open. – A sneaker where the wearer does not have to make any compromises: not in design, not in comfort and not in sustainability.
For the MOD.6 c:fiber, MONACO DUCKS has once again questioned everything that came before – RE:think, RE:duce, RE:cycle.
RE:duce:
On the one hand, MONACO DUCKS has managed to greatly reduce the number of components. This plays an important role for recycling at the end of life. A classic sneaker has an average of 23 different parts, in comparison the MOD.6 gets by with 12 components and only 8 different materials.
These materials are also carefully selected, 70% of the sole and even 100% of the upper are made from renewable raw materials. The shoe consists of 80% renewable raw materials.
RE:cycle:
70% resin from sugar cane is used for the EVA green sole. But best of all, the soles can be recycled together with the manufacturer, for this the old soles are pulverized and mixed into the mixture for new soles.
RE:think:
The heart of the new sneaker is the knitted upper material, a real natural innovation from Lenzing: TENCEL ™ this material is made from sustainably grown wood, from FSC and PEFC certified forests.
Lenzing even received the EUROPEAN Award for the Environment for the manufacturing process, a solvent spinning process that converts cellulose into cellulosic fibers in a closed production cycle. The water used and over 99% of the organic solvent used are kept in circulation and used again and again.
For the new sneaker, MONACO DUCKS uses TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers because they have the perfect sustainability, comfort and performance properties for sneakers.
In terms of sustainability, the material is convincing across the board: of botanical origin, sustainably produced and ultimately completely biodegradable and even home compostable, within 14 weeks a pure TENCEL textile has almost completely disappeared from the ground – WOW!
The wearer can also look forward to many great properties during the use phase, because TENCEL is colour-fast, gentle on the skin, very hard-wearing, regulates moisture and heat, and it also inhibits bacterial growth and thus the formation of unpleasant odours.
The modern, sporty sneakers in plain white or navy are also characterized by being light and comfortable to wear and are the ideal companion for every summer adventure.
The MONACO DUCKS team is certain that this will not be the last sneaker in their collection that uses this fascinating material.
