Mona Lisa pelted with cake by disguised museum visitor | NOW

A visitor to the Louvre in Paris has the world-famous painting on Sunday Mona Lisa pelted with cake, Spanish newspaper reports El Pais† Leonardo da Vinci’s artwork was not damaged thanks to a glass display case.

The man would have tried in vain to break the display case. Then he threw cake at the canvas and spread the cake on the glass panel. Just before he was overpowered by guards, he scattered roses.

The motive of the man, who drove through the museum disguised as an old woman in a wheelchair, is unclear. He shouted something about protecting the earth when he was taken away by museum guards.

This is not the first time someone has tried the Mona Lisa to damage. In August 2009, a tourist threw a cup of tea at the canvas, shattering the display case. When the work was on display in Tokyo in 1974, a woman used a red spray to daub the painting. But the artwork was not damaged then.

In 1956 there were two incidents. A man threw acid at the Mona Lisacausing damage to the lower part. At the end of that year, a Bolivian painter threw a stone at the canvas, causing minor damage.
