Moderna to build mRNA vaccine research center in United Kingdom | Abroad

The British government signed a contract with Moderna for the center. Financial details have not been disclosed. “Our investment will ensure vaccines against the most dangerous viruses, putting us on the front line against future threats,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.

The aim of the center is to ensure access to “the next generation of vaccines and treatments” for British patients, the Department of Health said.

Construction on the center is expected to start this year. By 2025, Moderna would make the first vaccines there. “The center will be able to rapidly increase production in the event of a health emergency, strengthening the UK’s capacity to respond to future pandemics,” it said.
