Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy announces posthumous album and first single

Late Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy’s posthumous album The Hegelian Dialectic (The Book of Heroine) is due out later this year. The first single “You Will See” is due out on June 10th. In addition, his solo songs and albums are returning to mainstream streaming services.

“The music belongs to all of you”

Prodigy was working on the album The Hegelian Dialectic (The Book of Heroine) up to the time of his death, which is a follow-up to his last album Hegelian Dialectic (The Book of Revelation) from 2017.

Prodigy’s estate is said to have worked out a new deal with ADA, an independent distribution arm of Warner Music Group. This makes Prodigy’s entire solo discography – including his five studio albums – available again on the streaming services after it was removed in 2019 due to litigation.

In a statement, representatives of Prodigy’s family estate expressed their gratitude to all fans for their understanding of the circumstances surrounding the removal of the streaming services catalogue. They also thanked the musicians involved:

“We also want to thank the community of hip-hop artists who helped us compile Prodigy’s recent projects.” “The music belongs to all of you and we’re glad to be able to make it available again and forever.”

Mobb Deep

In addition to his solo career, Prodigy was part of the hip-hop duo Mobb Deep. Together they released a total of eight studio albums and, with over three million records sold, developed into one of the most successful rap crews before Prodigy died on June 20, 2017 at the age of just 42.

After collapsing during a concert, Johnson sought treatment for the sickle cell disease he had suffered from since childhood. Unfortunately, he suffocated in the hospital after choking on an egg.

At the time, Havoc – the other half of Mobb Deep – explained that he was stunned after his friend’s death:

“I’m still totally exhausted,” he said. “I can’t even listen to ‘Shook Ones’ or other Mobb Deep songs. I can hardly look at the pictures. I met him when I was 15. I’m 43 now. I still can’t believe it.”
