Thomas Müller scored in his first MLS playoff game and led his Vancouver Whitecaps to a confident 3-0 win over FC Dallas. Müller made it 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 60th minute, making it his ninth goal in all competitions since moving to Canada two months ago.
In addition to the ex-national player, Daniel Ríos (43rd) and Kenji Cabrera (83rd) also scored for the Whitecaps. Müller’s German teammate and ex-HSV professional Sebastian Schonlau has not played since the beginning of September due to Achilles tendon problems. The Whitecaps need another win to advance in the best-of-three first round of the playoffs. The teams will meet in Dallas on Saturday evening (local time).
“We controlled the game from the start. That was the plan. Finding the balance between attacking and being ready for counterattacks. We controlled them well and distributed the ball well,” said Müller afterwards on “Apple TV”. “But that was just one win, we still need a second one.” Asked what makes the Whitecaps special, he replied: “If I wasn’t a player, but an expert, I would say this team has a good cohesion. But as a player, I don’t reveal any secrets. We’re ready for more. And I want to have fun with the boys.”
