Victory against Cincinnati
German professional Kai Wagner (25) still has a chance of winning the Major League Soccer championship with the Philadelphia Union. A 1-0 win against FC Cincinnati saw the side advance to the Eastern Conference Finals on Thursday night (local time), where they meet the winners of the game between New York Red Bulls and CF Montréal. In the final of the Western Conference, Los Angeles FC has been confirmed as a participant after a 3-2 duel with local rivals LA Galaxy and will face either Austin FC or FC Dallas. The two winners of the conference finals will determine the champion on November 5th.
The Swabian Wagner was recently named the second best defender of the season and only had to admit defeat to his teammate Jakob Glesnes (28). Wagner made 35 games in the regular season, in which he contributed eight assists. His market value improved in the MLS update in August to a personal high of 4 million euros, which means that he shares the status of his team’s most valuable professional with Julián Carranza (22). Wagner, who has already been linked with a return to Europe in the TM rumor mill, is under option-ending contract with Philadelphia until the end of the year.
