Combination skin: the causes and how to recognize it

The possible causes include both genetic predisposition and the action of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase more or less present in some hair follicles.

Even the use of inappropriate products, with a texture that is too aggressive and irritating, can cause an imbalance of the hydrolipidic film resulting in an increase in sebum production.

How to cleanse combination skin

Prefer detergents with a neutral pH, based on sebum-absorbing principles, is the first step to rebalance mixed skin. In case of “tight skin”, it is possible to replace the classic foaming detergent with a more sensory milk.

The priority, in any case, is that of do not go to affect the natural reserve of liquids of the skin with too deep cleaning.

Serum with hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid: the perfect duo

Another highly recommended and effective ingredient on combination skin is hyaluronic acid. Naturally present in our body, thanks to its humectant function, it allows to attract and retain hydration with plumping efficacy.

At his side, in a proper skincare routine for combination skin, you can insert the tonic with glycolic acid, to be applied in particular in the T-zone. Dal exfoliating power (but mild) this AHA acid is a great one ally for both dry and oily areas of the face, as it eliminates dead cells, prevents skin rashes and brightens the complexion.

The active ingredients recommended for combination skin

In addition to glycolic acid, it can also be used azalic acid which smoothes the skin, reduces the size of pores and has an anti-inflammatory action.

Also very useful B vitamins, in particular B3 (or niacin) and B5 which have the ability to regulate sebum production and reduce hyperpigmentation.

There C vitamininstead, it protects against damage caused by free radicals.

The ingredients to avoid

Some combinations of active ingredients are not recommended: avoid the mix of vitamin C and retinol. But also glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid together because they are too aggressive. Therefore, be careful even with the exfoliation of a skin which, although mixed, is often more sensitive and alterable than it may seem.
