Mixed reactions after major PVV election win: ‘Huge push to the right’

‘A political landslide’ is perhaps the best summary of the election results. And that causes mixed reactions. This also applies to the station in Den Bosch. People could vote there on Thursday and there too, most votes went to the PVV. “The Netherlands must become the Netherlands again.”

A young woman looks contentedly at the results on her phone before catching the bus. “I was already sleeping because I am now going to work a morning shift. I also voted for the PVV, so I am satisfied,” she says.

A resident of Den Bosch who just walked into the station disagrees. “Yes, this is shocking,” he tells the reporter from Omroep Brabant. He calls the result ‘the pull to the right’. “I don’t think you should want that.”

‘Puzzle’
How a cabinet should end up here is a mystery, according to the man. “I don’t think this is a good image of the Netherlands. We want to be a tolerant country, but this election does not give a good picture of that.”

A passing woman agrees. “Well, what do you think about this? I find this very unexpected and I am not satisfied with it at all. As a woman in the Netherlands, you don’t want a right-wing cabinet. We can’t change much about it anymore, I’m afraid”

But yes, another woman disagrees with that. She also voted for the PVV herself. “Yes, that’s what it turned out to be. This is awesome. Wilders deserves it too. He has such good points. The Netherlands must become the Netherlands again,” she concludes with a big smile.

Another man hopes that the parties on both sides of the political spectrum will be able to find each other during the cabinet formation. “Then at least we end up somewhat in the middle.”

PVV largest is unique in Brabant
The PVV’s monster victory in the elections for the House of Representatives is unique in several respects. The PVV goes from 17 to 37 seats, more than doubling. Geert Wilders’ party is now the largest in Brabant for the first time.
