It was a Sunday with mixed feelings for Roy Steur. The 21-year-old FC Volendam goalkeeper made his Premier League debut against SC Heerenveen. This was due to Kayne van Oevelen’s serious injury. “I didn’t see it happen, but I quickly noticed that it was wrong.”

Steur previously played for Volendam in the KNVB Cup against Quick Boys, Genemuiden and Sparta. “I certainly look back on my debut with pride. I know how much hard work it took. I am always proud when it pays off.”

Sean Steur’s older brother does not yet know the status of Van Oevelen. “I just saw him. Hopefully he will be well again soon. We will soon hear how he is doing.”

Rick Kruys, Volendam’s trainer, confirms that Van Oevelen will be examined in hospital tomorrow. It was quite a shock for the Utrecht player after his goalkeeper was carried off the field on a stretcher. “I watched that with a lot of pain. Firstly for him and secondly for us. It doesn’t look good on the images and that is annoying. He is an important player for us.”

β€œRoy did well,” Kruys continues. “He was good at the set pieces and still grabbed the ball well. We have to be happy with that. The general feeling after this match is bad. We have to win twice and that has not changed.”

FC Volendam ends the season with an away match against Excelsior (4.45 pm) and a home match against Telstar (2.30 pm). Both matches can be followed live on NH Radio and via our live blog.
